The government is annoyed at the Sunday’s snatching of three convicted JMB militants and death of one of the convicts in police encounter, a minister has said.
Communication Minster Obaidul Quader described the incidents as ‘embarrassing’.
“For a government there are many pleasing as well as embarrassing incidents. The government is unhappy over snatching away of militants from police and death of a militant in shootout.
“This is embarrassing. The government will be more careful in these issues,” he told reporters at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
Earlier, Sri Lankan High Commissioner WA Sarath K Weragoda called on the minister.
In the meeting, Quader said they had discussed dealing with terrorism as Sri Lanka had a considerable experience in this matter.
On the remarks of ruling party leaders about the link of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami with the snatching of militants, the minister said, “One should make such remarks only after investigation.”
The communication minister said traffic congestions would be reduced within six months time by making the roads cleared of encroachers.
