Sheikh Salim for banning BNP

Awami League lawmaker and its presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Salim.

Ruling Awami League lawmaker and its presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Salim on Monday demanded imposition of a ban on the politics of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami, calling them a radical terrorist anti-independence force.

‘They are enemies of the state, enemies of freedom. Communalism is the enemy of democracy. I demand the ban of terrorist, militant, anti-independence BNP and Jamaat,’ he said, while speaking in Jaitya Sangsad taking part in the thanksgiving motion on the president’s speech.

Sheikh Selim drew the attention of the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, to take action in this regard.

He said that the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman banned the politics of anti-independence parties in this country.

‘As a daughter of Bangabandhu, only you can do it. Bangabandhu’s soul will rest in peace if anti-independence forces BNP-Jamaat are banned,’ he said.

Sheikh Salim said that to save the independence of Bangladesh and the country, everyone must be united.

‘I am making this demand so that no anti-independence forces can do politics in Bangladesh. They should be banned. They should not be able to kill, terrorise and create anarchy in Bangladesh in the name of politics. Legal action should be taken against whomever can be caught. No scope for mercy,’ he said.

He said that BNP is not a political party. They are militant terrorist and anti-independence groups.

‘They have no right to do politics in this country. They do not show respect to the constitution,’ he said.

Mentioning that the conspiracy against the country is still continuing, he said, BNP-Jamaat anti-independence forces have started conspiracy again.

Bringing up the topic of the founding president Sheikh Mujib’s murder, Sheikh Salim said that after independence, when Mujib advanced on the path of economic emancipation, the ultra-revolutionary and counter-revolutionary conspiracy against independence had started.

‘International conspirators were involved in this,’ he added.

He said that if there were no conspiracy from the forces around Sheikh Mujib, no one could dare to touch Bangabandhu.

‘A huge circle surrounding Bangabandhu had confused him,’ he added.

Sheikh Selim alleged that BNP-Jamaat repeatedly sabotaged to stop the January 7 elections.

He mentioned that sitting in London, Tarique Zia, the acting chairman of BNP, called for non-cooperation movement.

‘The people answered it in the January 7 election,’ he said.
