Separate pay commission for teachers soon: Nahid

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Wednesday said the government will soon set up a separate pay commission for the teachers to reorganise their salary structure.

“A pay commission for the government officials will be announced within a few days…separate pay commission will also be set up for the teachers,” he said while addressing a teachers’ rally at the National Academy for Educational Management (Naem) auditorium in the city.

Apart from enhancing the wages of government officials, Nahid said, the government has raised the salaries of government and non-government teachers by 62 percent after it assumed power.

“Despite resource constraints, we’re trying to extend our support to the teachers by providing house-rents and medical allowances under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) and giving time-scale to the Ebtedayee teachers,” he said.

The Education Minister said the government is working sincerely to bring all the non-MPO teachers under the MPO.

Nahid urged the teachers to devote themselves to teaching to make the new generation well-educated and skilled one.

Naem director general Prof Shaikh Ekramul Kabir presided over the rally.
