BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed was on Wednesday taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences in Shillong.

He underwent some tests on Wednesday afternoon, but no more tests were done on Thursday morning.

NEIGRIHMS director AG Ahangar on Wednesday evening told Prothom Alo that the doctors would make a decision on Thursday afternoon after seeing the test results.

Salahuddin’s wife Hasina Ahmed had met their lawyer HP Mahanatma at his office adjecent to High Court on Thursday morning.

Mahanatma refused to comment on the legal actions regarding Salahuddin. He said Salahuddin’s health is the priority of the authorities concerend and local police.

Salahuddin was detained from Shilong on 19n May and taken to Civil hospital. He was sent to a mental hospital from there, but was quickly brought back to civil hospital once his identity was confirmed.

Later, he was transferred to NEIGRIHMS hospital after being diagnosed with various diseases, including nephrolithiasis (kidney stone) disease and back pain.

Once cured, Salahuddin will be prosecuted in Indian court under the Foreigners Act 46 for entering India without passport.
