Authorities of North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences in Shillong on Tuesday evening released Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Salah Uddin Ahmed and he was handed over to Shillong police station.
Kharkrang, superintendent of police in East Khasi Hills, confirmed the matter.
Meanwhile, a Shillong lower court asked local police to submit by May 29 a report on Salah Uddin Ahmed, arrested on charge of intruding into the Indian territory without valid documents.
BNP joint secretary general Salah Uddin was going under treatment at NEIGRIHMS as he was suffering from heart, kidney and prostrate complications.
On May 20, Salah Uddin was shifted to the NEIGRIHMS from Shillong Civil Hospital, where he was admitted in police custody on May 11.
The BNP leader was first taken to the Shillong Civil Hospital on May 11, then admitted to the Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Science in Shillong and again admitted to the Shillong Civil Hospital on May 12.
The BNP leader had remained untraced since he was allegedly picked up by law enforcers from an Uttara house in Dhaka on March 10.
Shillong police said that Salah Uddin was found wandering at the Golf Link area in the Meghalaya capital on May 11.
