Sohel Taj says he is not returning to politics

He wrote on his Facebook fan page on Monday, “Dear friends and well-wishers, I would like to let everyone know that media reports about me re-entering politics is absolutely untrue.”

The national media had reported that the son of Bangladesh’s founder Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmad’s would come back to politics after his meeting with PM Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on Saturday.

Sohel Taj gained popularity among young Awami Leaguers through his presence in protests against the BNP-led Four-Party Alliance government.

He was made the state minister for home affairs when Awami League came to power through the elections on Dec 29, 2008.

He later resigned and left the country.

After the recent meeting’s photos went viral, there were speculations in the arena of politics. An online portal even published a report that Sohel Taj would return as the Joint General Secretary of the Awami League.

Tanjim wrote, “I went to meet the Honorable Prime Minister along with my family members to apprise her about the launching of “Tajuddin Ahmad & Syeda Zohra Tajuddin Memorial Foundation.”
