Rotary peace award for Hasina

pm-special

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday called upon all to supplement the government efforts to establish a poverty and hunger-free prosperous Bangladesh for the next generation.
She made the call while accepting the Rotary Peace Award 2013 conferred on her by Rotary International District 3280, Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh chapter of Rotary International organised the function marking its platinum jubilee at a hotel in the capital.
The government, said the prime minister, has consolidated democracy, attached priority to maintaining communal harmony and brought the   war criminals to justice    to establish peace in society.
Terming the award an honour to the people of the country, Hasina said the recognition of the Rotary International for the peace efforts of the government will inspire her to establish and maintain peace at home and abroad.
The world, noted the prime minister, was now getting engaged with sustainable development, and she strongly believed that sustainable development could be achieved only through ensuring global peace.
In this context, she cited the presentation of her peace model “People’s Empowerment and Development” in the UN General Assembly in     2011 to achieve global peace. The 193 member global forum passed the proposal in December last year.
Former deputy prime minister of Thailand and past president of Rotary International Bhichai Rattakul, Rotarian Ishtiaque A Zaman and program chairman Rotarian F H Arif, among others, spoke at the programme.

  1. This lady is still looking to get the Nobel Peace prize. A bunch of palm greasing Rotarians are making Hasina feel good. It is disgrace to peace overture for a person under whom people were shot with live bullets, a massacre happened at the BDR complex; apparently arranged by her party and allies, politicians abducted or killed and much more mayhem. Some people in Bangladesh have lost their scruples in greasing palms of powerful people. Rotary is no exception.

  2. Is this some kind of a joke or what? Hers is a leader of a government that according to Human Rights Watch has registered the worst record of human rights abuse – outright murder, enforced disappearances, jailing and torturing of opponents etc. – that the country has ever witnessed or experienced and the Rotarians give her a peace award? Who are these Rotarians – . a bunch of cheer leaders for the murderers!?

  3. We remember Israeli PM Menahem Begin, the destroyer of King David Hotel in Beirut, getting Nobel Prize. What a shameful selection was that! We won’t be surprised if one day Hitler or Stalin is awarded posthumous peace award. Compared to that our ‘Lady Hitler’s getting peace prize from an organization like Rotary is a trifle thing.
