There is no political crisis but social instability is prevailing in Bangladesh and it should be addressed working together, opposition leader Rawshan Ershad has said.
She made the statement while taking part in the budget discussion in the parliament on Wednesday afternoon.
Rawshan said: “There is no political instability in the country rather social instability is prevailing in the country. We have to take steps to stop it. We have to work together for the betterment of the country.”
Describing the gloomy picture of Bangladesh’s economy and law and order situation, the Jatiya Party leader said the government has disclose what sort of steps it took to overcome the situation.
Urging the political leaders to keep a political harmony, she said: “We all are victim of political vengeance. We do not talk to each other. This culture has ruined us. We have to come out from this culture. We have to find a path and work on it.”
Regarding the financial scams, Rawshan said: “Who looted the money of the public? Incidents like Bangladesh Bank heist is rare in the world. Who are involved with those financial scams should be brought in front of the public.”
The wife of former dictator HM Ershad also criticised the government for imposing VAT on meditation.
“Poor people take meditation service with minimum cost and this is very popular around the world. So government should backtrack from this move.”
Regarding the Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant, Rawshan said: “100% people in Russia are educated whereas we only have 30% educated people. If any leakage takes place in the power plant then thousands of people will die.
“One more question, where will the wastages of the nuclear power plant go? Has any treaty been signed in this regard? I think government should be careful regarding it.”
Slamming the finance minister for imposing tax on farmer, the opposition chief said: “How will they pay tax? There are at least 10 million people in the country who can pay tax? Why are you not thinking about them? Why are you targeting the poor people?
“It would not be possible to meet the deficit of the budget by bringing the poor people in tax net.”
Rawshan said a few days ago some media reported that cases were filed against some farmers for not paying loan in due time.
“But what about the people who smuggled thousands crore of taka from the country? Who are the loan defaulters and why they are not paying their loan for a long time? So, I am urging prime minister to write off the loan and to give the amount of loan from prime minister’s fund.”
Demanding separate bank for the women, lawmaker from Mymensingh said: “I am urging the prime minister to establish a separate bank for the women. The bank will be operated by women. That will empower women.”
Rawshan said the ruling party criticised Jatiya Party for its activities when it was in the office but the reality is what Jatiya Party did 25 years ago might not be relevant today. “If we are bad then why don’t you be good.”
