Rafiqul threatens tougher prog for CG

BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah on Thursday threatened that they will soon take to the streets  with harsher programmes like hartal and blockade to force the government to reinstate the caretaker government system.

“We’ll also go for the programmes what Sheik Hasina had taken in 1996 demanding introduction of the caretaker government system. We’ll force the government either to quit or accept our demand through the street programme like hartal and blockade,” he said.

The BNP leader issued the threat while addressing a discussion organised by   All Community Forum, a pro-opposition platform, at the Jatiya Press Club.

Rafiqul claimed that most political parties, including Jatiya Party, and the country’s 90 percent people have support for arranging the next election under a non-party caretaker government.

He alleged that the government is trying to hold a one-sided general election defying public opinion. “But the BNP and 18-party alliance won’t allow the current regime to hold any election under a partisan administration.”

The former minister urged the government to shun its stubbornness and hold the next national election under a neutral caretaker government as per the aspiration of the country’s people.

The BNP leader also demanded the immediate release of Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman and Odhikar secretary general Advocate Adilur Rahman Khan.
