At least 12 people were killed and over a hundred others injured in political violence in Noakhali, Nilphamari and Laxmipur districts on Saturday.
Of the deceased, three are ruling-party activists while nine others BNP and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami workers.
In Nilphamari, five people, including three BCL men, were killed and 47 others injured as Awami League workers clashed with BNP-Jamaat activists at Ramganj in Sadar upazila.
The deceased were identified as Farhad, 22, a Shibir activist, Khorshed Chowdhury, organising secretary of Ramganj union unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), and three Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists — Zakaria Manik, 24, Murad, 22, and Lebu Mia, 28.
Police and witnesses said the clash broke out around 11:45am when BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men obstructed the car carrying Asaduzzaman Noor on his way to Kanaikata to join a rally.
As the supporters of Noor resisted the Jamaat–Shibir men, a fierce clash broke out between the two groups.
On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control by firing rubber bullets and teargas shells, and rescued Asaduzzaman Noor.
In Noakhali, six activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir were killed and over 45 others injured as they locked into a violent clash with police in Companyganj upazila headquarters.
The deceased were identified as Saiful,26, son of Nurul Islam of Rampur village and Russel,32, son of Shafiullah of Sirajpur village, Sajib,23, son of Abdur Rahman of Companyganj upazila headquarters Abdus Sattar, 22, Raihan, 21, and Matiur Rahman, 26, of the upazila.
Police Super of the district Anisur Rahman confirmed the death of the three people –Abdus Sattar, Raihan, and Matiur Rahman. He also said five cops were injured during the clash.
Companyganj upazila unit Jamaat general secretary Mosharraf Hossain said three other Shibir activists -– Sajib, Saiful and Russel — were also killed in the clash and they were buried at their respective villages.

The clash continued for over two hours that left the six people dead on the spot and injured over 50 people. The injured were admitted to different local hospitals and clinics.
The Jamaat-Shibir activists torched the upazila land office, post office, Ansar VDP office, family planning office and BRDB office during the clash.
In Laxmipur, a local leader Jamaat-e-Islami leader — Dr Fayez Ahmed, nayeb-e-ameer of district unit Jamaat — was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants at his residence in Uttar Temuhni area of the district town early Saturday.
However, Ahmed’s wife Marjia Foyez claimed that Rapid Action Battalion members broke into their house around 12:00am and ransacked all the rooms in the name search.
Later, they took him to the rooftop of the building and shot him to death, she claimed.
However, no version of Rab or police about the incident was available.
