Police on Sunday pressed charges against 148 people including senior BNP leaders Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Amanullah Aman and Zainul Abdin Farroque in a Dhaka court over the March 11 violence in front of the party headquarters.
Sub-Inspector Mahmadul Hasan of Paltan Police Station, who is investigating the case, filed the chargesheet, Metropolitan Sessions Court’s Additional Public Prosecutor Shah Alam Talukder told bdnews24.com.
The Investigation officer has appealed to exclude six persons as their complicity had not been found.
Talukder said the court of Speedy Trial Tribunal judge Keshob Roy Chowdhury would accept the chargesheet.
An opposition rally on Mar 11 in front of the BNP headquarters ended in chaos after several crude bombs exploded. The law keepers raided the party office and detained 155 opposition activists including several top BNP leaders.
Police also claimed to have found 10 crude bombs from the BNP office.
The following day police released BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, former Dhaka Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka and former Home Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury but filed two cases against 154 opposition activists at the Paltan Police Station over the mayhem.
Opposition Chief Whip Farroque, BNP Joint General Secretary Aman and Mohammad Shahjahan, DAB General Secretary and BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Dr M Zahid Hossain and BNP Assistant Information and Research Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman were accused of instigation to violence.
The court has already sent Rizvi, Aman and Farroque to jail in the two cases and the rest 151 have been remanded.
On Mar 20, the court of Roy Chowdhury granted police three days to quiz 151 accused for three days in the case filed under the Speedy Trial Act and Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ali granted five day-remand for each detainees in another case filed under the Explosives Act.
