Police bars BNP rally at Engineers’ Institute in city

Police barred a BNP rally scheduled to be held in the Engineers’ Institute in the city this (Thursday) afternoon.

Dhaka City BNP was to arrange the rally in protest against the rising incidents of killing, force disappearance and abduction across the country.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was scheduled to address the rally as the chief guest. Eminent citizens, senior journalists and foreign diplomats were invited to the programme.

“’Senior police officials told us we’re not allowed to hold the rally as Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) did not give us permission,” Dhaka City BNP member secretary Abdus Salam told UNB.

Salam said they took permission from the authorities of the Engineers Institute for holding the rally.

He said they also submitted a letter to the DMP authorities seeking permission for holding the rally.

Salam alleged that police are not allowing the party leaders and activists to enter the Engineers’ Institute.

He, however, said they are still determined to hold the rally.
