BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged on Friday that the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was not sincere about her proposal for a dialogue with the opposition to resolve the prevailing political stalemate.
“The prime minister is talking about a political dialogue with the opposition. But she is not sincere at all about what she is saying,” Fakhrul told reporters at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters in the capital.
The BNP leader alleged that the government was planning to take the country to the path of confrontation by calling a counter rally on October 25 when the BNP-led opposition alliance has planned an anti-government rally to materialse its one-point demand for restoration of the caretaker government system.
The opposition has sought permission for the rally but have yet to receive any decision from the authorities concerned.
Criticising the government strongly for not issuing permission for the October 25 rally, which she termed a democratic right, the Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia said on Wednesday that nothing would be able to stop.
The government led by Awami League would not be able to foil the rally by using police and Rab, Fakhrul said Friday.
The current session of the ninth parliament will end on October 24. The parliamentary polls will be held anytime between October 25 this year and January 24 next year.
