The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on Saturday said she expects the highest example of patriotism from Bangladesh Army as this organisation was born through the Liberation War.
‘I hope the Bangladesh Army will always remain ready for any sacrifice for the country and the nation,’ she said.
The prime minister said this while addressing a reunion parade marking Regimental Commanders’ Conference of East Bengal Regiment of Bangladesh Army and 9th Tigers’ Reunion at Chittagong Cantonment.
Hasina said Bangladesh Army is part of the people of the country and East Bengal Regiment is the main component of the force, United News of Bangladesh reports.
‘Members of the regiment are playing praiseworthy role in post-disaster management, infrastructure development and other nation-building activities. Not only in the country but they’re also working with honesty, devotion and competence beyond the country.’
Recalling the role of the Regiment in the War of Liberation, the prime minister said five battalions of the EBR participated in front war.
In recognition to their role in the War of Liberation, she said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman asked the members of all units of the Regiment to wear red piping on the collar. It is a great pride for the members of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 8th EBR, she added.
Highlighting the steps taken by her government for development of Bangladesh Army, Hasina said the government is making constant efforts to build capable and modern armed forces so that it can discharge all duties in the international arena keeping its head high.
The prime minister said today’s Bangladesh is different one. The people of Bangladesh are more confident and indomitable to accomplish any difficult task, she said.
Pointing out the Padma Bridge Project, Hasina said Bangladesh is ready to implement its mega project with its own resources. The government has given the duty on Bangladesh Army to oversee the construction work of the cherished project due to the proficiency of the force in doing such work, she said.
The prime minister inspected the parade and took salute.
Chief of army staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq received the prime minister on her arrival at Chittagong Cantonment.
Cabinet members, parliament members, the chiefs of Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force, and senior civil and military officials were present.

  1. Yes; she would like to see that they support her and her party. Supporting Awami League and Sheikh Hasina is the definition of patriotism.

  2. When was the Bangladesh Army unpatriotic ? We have seen the role Army played in all crisis moments. The Army should still assess the country’s Law and Order situation and act accordingly.

  3. PM looks great (save the double chin !) & confident as ever, like her great father. Wonder why the Commander-in-Chief’s jacket with 5-stars were missing on the show ?
