Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said she thinks there should be no admission test for higher education after one’s HSC and its equivalent examinations.
“I think there’s no need for further test for higher study after HSC,” she said while replying to questions of students from Jessore in a videoconferencing at her Ganobhaban official residence.
Earlier, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over the copies of the results of the HSC and its equivalent examinations.
The results of the HSC and its equivalent examinations were published on Saturday showing an average pass rate of 74.30 percent as against 78.67 percent last year.
The Prime Minister said, “After appearing a big public examination like HSC, I don’t’ find any reason to sit for any further test. “Why will the students take such an extra pressure?” she told her audience as she was making her personal opinion in this regard.
Zahid Hassan of Aminia Madrasah in Jessore in the videoconferencing proposed holding a unified admission test in public medical colleges within one month of the publication of HSC results. “This could help reduce our burden and pressure,” he said.
Backing his opinion, Hasina said she did not find any justification to sit for any further test for higher study after the HSC examinations.
“Students after passing the HSC will just go to the higher educational institutions for viva voce for admission, that’s it,” she said.
In this connection, the Prime Minister recalled her admission process in the Dhaka University and said that she had come with her educational certificates, filled a form and appeared for a viva voce.
The Prime Minister also talked to Tahira Khatun of Jessore Women College, Tayubur Rahman of Technical College and Suraia Aziz of MM Government College.
They also urged the Prime Minister to hold the public university admission test with just one unified question paper.
“I also agree with you. You’ll get the chance for admission once you passed HSC in the future. We’ll have to go through that process,” she said.
Hasina asked the other students present at the conference room at the DC office, Jessore about the admission system at the university level after passing the HSC and equivalent examinations.
All the students in the videoconference demanded in chorus for a unified examination system for all public universities of the country.
