The budget session of Parliament will not conclude on Jul 3 as planned.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said the time limit for the session will be extended, but how long was yet to be decided.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Tuesday afternoon adjourned the parliament session until Jul 14.
The Speaker told bdnews24.com earlier in the day, “The budget session will not come to an end on Jul 3. Its time will be extended since the work to promulgate several Acts is still left.”
Parliament’s Busines Advisory Committee had decided to end the session on Jul 3.
When asked how long the session may continue, Shirin Sharmin said, that decision will be taken after discussions.
The 18th parliamentary session began on Jun 3. The jurisdiction to extend the time of the session was given to the Speaker in a meeting of the advisory committee.
The main opposition BNP had returned to Parliament on the first day of the budget session after 83 continuous days of absence. They have been present in Parliament except the day of the budget presentation on June 6.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia both discussed the budget on Jun 30. The national budget for fiscal year 2013-2014 was passed the following day.
