The Motijheel Ideal School and College is one of the schools where the Pakistani flags were distributed
The Education Ministry is apparently embarrassed after learning that Pakistani flags were distributed among the students at Saturday’s concluding function of a sports competition for the schools and Madrasas.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the programme at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital.
A good number of miniature Pakistani flags were found inside the packets of Bangladesh flags when the teachers were handing them over to the students, who were supposed to waive them during the function. The directorate of education procured the flags by outsourcing.
One of the schools that were given the Pakistani flags with bundles of Bangladesh flags was the Motijheel Ideal School and College. The persons in charge stopped distributing the flags and brought the matter to the higher authorities’ attention.
The school management informed local lawmaker Rashed Khan Menon, also the civil aviation minister, who sent a letter to the education minister demanding punishment to those responsible for the anti-state approach.
“I have talked to the education minister today [Sunday] and demanded serious punishment for the culprits. The Education Ministry has formed a probe body,” Rashed said yesterday.
The minister said Ataur Rahman, a director of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, was made the head of the probe body that has been asked to submit a report to the ministry.
The Motijheel Ideal School and College authorities have also been investigating the incident. Officials at the directorate of education said one of its assistant directors was in-charge of making 10,000 flags. She was reportedly close to former BNP lawmaker Mosaddeq Ali Falu.
