The government has asked the garment owners to pay the festival bonus by September 20 ahead of upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
The owners also asked to pay 15 days’ salary of the on-going month.
State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque Chunnu made the disclosure after a meeting with the members of “Crisis Management Committee” on Tuesday afternoon.
Representatives from Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMEA) attended the meeting.
The junior minister also directed the factory owners to allow vacation to the workers in phases starting from September 21.
He also said a gazette would be issued on Wednesday with the provision of compulsory festival allowance in the Labour Act.
Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in the country on September 25.
