Owner of collapsed tin-shed house held

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Sunday night arrested the owner of the two-storey tin-shed house that collapsed in the city’s East Rampura leaving 12 people dead.
The accused house owner, Maniruzzaman Chowdhury, 38, who is also president of Juba League unit of Ward No-22, was arrested from Nishchintapur Tiprabazar area in Sadar upazila of Comilla district.
The two-storey tin-shed house, erected on a water body on bamboo pillars at Begerbari Jheelpar in East Rampura, caved in around 4:00 pm on April 15, leaving 12 people, including two children, killed and an unspecified number of people trapped inside.
It is alleged, Moniruzzaman constructed the tin-shed house showing his muscle power after grabbing the land.
Police on April 16 filed a case in connection with the house collapse.
