The BNP-led 18-party alliance has postponed its countrywide nonstop blockade programme from 6 am on Monday till further announcement.

“BNP acting secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has made the announcement of postponing the blockade,” party assistant office secretary Shamimur Rahman Shamim said in a statement.

He said the alliance will announce fresh programmes soon.

Earlier, Mirza Fakhrul in a statement said, “The nonstop nationwide blockade of the 18-party alliance will resume at 6 am Sunday and it will continue till 6am Monday. However, the blockade will remain postponed from 6am Monday to Tuesday on the occasion of Eid-e-Miladunnabi.”

He, however, said the nonstop road-rail-waterway blockade will resume at 6am on Wednesday and it will continue until further announcement.

Earlier, on Thursday, the opposition combine postponed its countrywide blockade for Friday and Saturday considering public sufferings.

In its last-ditch effort to resist the January-5 ‘one-sided’ polls, the opposition alliance enforced the nonstop blockade on January 1.

But the election was held on the scheduled day amid low voter turnout and massive violence that left over 20 people killed.

The 18-party alliance has been on a nonstop movement since the Election Commission announced the schedule for the 10th parliamentary polls on November 25.
