Rahman also said it was ‘very inhuman’ the way 17-year-old Oishee Rahman was remanded over the murder of her parents- SB Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and Swapna Begum.

“It seems the court did not consider the situation (while granting police remand) that led the girl to commit the murders,” he told bdnews24.com on Monday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mizanur Rahman on Sunday granted police five-day custody of Oishee over the murders in Dhaka’s Chamelibagh.

Police claimed the O-level student of Oxford International School confessed her involvement in the murder.

“The court would never have sent a child in police custody had it considered that,” he said.

Oishee had surrendered before the police a day after the bodies were recovered on Friday. Police nabbed one of her friends later.

On Sunday, that friend of her and the maid of the Oishee’s house Khadiza Khatun Sumi were also remanded for five days.

Paltan Police Station Sub-Inspector Shahidulla, who is investigating the case, told bdnews24.com: “Oishee herself had told police that she was over 18 years after surrendering.”

“Forensic reports can reveal one’s real age,” he added.

Khadiza Khatun Sumi has been shown as a 15-year old in the case. “So, there will be no debate over her age,” the police official said.

As per the Children Act passed in June, anyone under 18 is considered to be a child.
