The BNP-led 18-party alliance has announced a non-stop blockade programme starting from January 1.

The move came on Monday, a day after the party announced to stage sit-in demonstrations in road, rail and waterways across the country until the polls shcedule cancellation.

Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, adviser to the BNP chairperson, announced the programme at his Bashundhara residence on Monday evening.

The opposition alliance will also stage demonstrations across the country on Tuesday.

The 18-party alliance came up with the fresh programme after they had failed to observe the Dhaka March programme in the capital on Sunday and Monday.

Earlier on December 24, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia called her party leaders and activists to join the Dhaka March programme at party’s Nayapaltan headquarter on Sunday (December 29).

Obstructed by the police from coming out of her residence to join the programme on Sunday, Khaleda extended the march till Monday.

Police has banned all forms of gathering for Tuesday, the last day of this year, to avoid any disorder in view of the prevailing situation of Dhaka ahead of the upcoming January 5 national polls.
