Non-political figures become overactive when polls approach: Hanif

Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif alleged that some non-political figures become overactive to destabilise the country when the national election appears.

“Some non-political persons try to draw attention when election appears by opening counselling centres and start giving advice. It’s like everything will get solved if anyone goes to them. As a matter of fact, hey want to create a political instability,” he said.

Hanif, also the special assistant to the Prime Minister, said this while addressing an extended meeting of Awami League Dhaka City unit at its office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.

The Awami League leader said such advice would not work as politicians will solve political their problem, if any.

On Anti-Corruption Commission effort to bring back siphoned-off money of BNP chairperson’s son Arafat Rahman Koko, Hanif said, “Through handing over money to Anti-Corruption Commission it has been proved that they had committed unbridled corruption through Hawa Bhaban when BNP was in power.”

“The BNP leaders are not talking directly about it as it is fact. They’re only saying that the government is conducting investigation against BNP, but not against the government,” he added.

About BNP acting general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir remarks that they are ready to sit for dialogue, Hanif said, “We also believe that crisis will be solved through discussions.”

Addressing the meeting, State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam said the government will hold free, fair and acceptable polls. “We want to hold polls with the participation of all political parties. If they (BNP) don’t take part, they’ll get alienated from people.”

Awami League joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, among others, spoke at the programme held with city Awami League vice-president Foyez Uddin Mia in the chair.

  1. So Mr.Hanif thinks that politics is for politicians only and that no one other than a politician has the right to say anything ever. No wonder. Politics in Bangladesh is the most profitable business and it has always been that way. So politicians don’t like competition particularly when that competition is from an honest person like Dr.Yunus. God save Bangladesh…..
