No stir if caretaker demand is met

BNP will not resort to any demonstration if the government creates “equal opportunities for all” by heeding its demand for restoration of the caretaker government, the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia has said.

She stated this on Friday while exchanging Eid greetings with diplomats and eminent personalities.

“You (government) still have time… if you love people then place the caretaker bill in the Parliament,” she told reporters.

“We will accept the election results,” she added.

BNP leaders on numerous occasions have announced to wage tough anti-government movements to compel the Awami League led government to realise its demand.

The general elections will be held under the incumbent government, as the 15th Constitutional Amendment made in 2011 scrapped the provision for a caretaker government.

The opposition alliance, led by the BNP, has been on the streets since then, demanding its restoration, claiming polls under a party-led government would not be ‘free and fair’.
