Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad said the ‘new generation’ should lead the party, referring to the demands of some party leaders to make Raushon Ershad the co-chairperson the political party.
“Hand over power to the new generation. Our time has ended,” Ershad said on Monday addressing his wife Raushon, who is also Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament.
The JaPa chairman, who is known for rolling over from one decision to another, reaffirmed in the press meet that he would never change his decision to appoint GM Quader and Ruhul Amin Howlader as co-chairman and secretary general respectively.
He also said there was no place for ‘pro-Raushon leaders’ in his party.
On Sunday night, 31 Jatiya Party MPs came up with three demands at a meeting held in the opposition leader’s office at the National Parliament.
Jatiya Party has emerged as the main opposition in the House with 40 members in the parliament after the 10th National Election.
The pro-Raushon leaders wanted removal of Ershad’s younger brother GM Quader and Howlader from their posts, so that Raushon Ershad could be made co-chairperson.
They also demanded of Ershad not to take any further decision without consulting them first.
