No ‘evil force’ can foil Hefajat movement: Shafi

Hefajat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shafi on Thursday said that no ‘evil force’ will be able to foil Hefajat movement.

He came up with the remark when Hefajat leaders from Sylhet and Sunamganj districts, led by Sylhet city Hefajat president Maulana Sahinur Pasha Chowdhury, called on him at Hathazari Madrasah in Chittagong in the morning, according to a Hefajat press release issued from Sylhet.

“Many are now thinking that Hefajat’s activities have come to a standstill…it’s not right. Our movement will continue until our 13-point demand is met,” the release said quoting Shafi.

“The country having 90 percent Muslims is now divided into two camps. Those staying with Hefajat are believers while staying its opposite camp atheists”, said Shafi.

During the half-an-hour meeting, the Hefajat chief called on the party activists to strengthen the party’s movement against atheists and anti-Islamic elements at the grassroots level.

Ex-MP Pasha Chowdhury told he Hefajat chief that one crore people of Sylhet division, a land of 350 saints, are ready to strengthen Hefajat activities as there has been mass awakening that started from Chittagong, another land of 12 saints.

Hefajat demands include restoring the phrase ‘Complete faith and trust in the Almighty Allah’ in the constitution, repealing all the laws contrary to the Holy Quran and Sunnah and enacting a harsher anti-blasphemy law.

Sunamganj district Hefajat Ameer Maulana Abdul Basir, joint convener Mohibur Rahman and Sylhet Hefajat leaders Maulana Ali Noor, Maulana Tayebur Rahman Chowdhury, Maulana Syed Salim Kasemi, Maulana Akhtaruzzaman and Maulana Matiur Rahman were among the delegation members.
