Election Commissioner Shah Nawaz on Wednesday said the electoral enquiry committee found no allegation against Awami League MP Shamim Osman.
“We (Election Commission) formed the enquiry committee to probe anomalies in the Narayaganj-5 by-election. We found no allegation against Shamim Osman in the report submitted by the enquiry committee,” he told reporters at his EC Secretariat office.
Shah Nawaz said no verbal and written allegation was found against Shamim. “No one lodged complaint against him to the enquiry committee during the investigation. So action can’t be taken against anyone.”
Shamim Osman allegedly threatened a police officer, Bashir Uddin, after he had thwarted an attempt by Osman supporters to capture a polling station during Narayanganj-5 by-election on June 26.
On June 29, the returning officer appointed by the EC asked the electoral committee to investigate the matter.
The enquiry committee submitted a report to the Election Commission in July.
Selim Osman, brother of Shamim Osman, was elected in the by-polls as a Jatiya Party MP.
