‘Need a second term to deliver on promises’

The Communications Minister has said it would be possible to execute big development projects if the ruling alliance is returned to power.

Obaidul Quader said no government gets elected back-to-back in Bangladesh, a trend that impedes development work.

“It will be possible to implement projects like widening the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway to four lanes and the Padma bridge,” he said on Friday while opening three bridges at Sitakunda.

Both projects were key electoral pledges of the Awami League-led coalition.

Quader believes a government should get two consecutive terms to maintain the continuity of development.

He said the main hurdle to finishing big projects was the initial failure to start on time. The Communications Minister said the filling of ditches along the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway was on.

Quader inaugurated the Ghoramara bridge, Banshbaria bridge, and another at the Shuklal Hat on the arterial road.
