The culprits of Narayanganj seven-murder have been “identified” as the three progress reports on the incident have been submitted to the Attorney General’s office.
Mizanur Rahman Khan, a member of the seven-member enquiry committee told this while talking to the media on Tuesday.
He said that the reports have identified the culprits involved in the murder but did not mention their names for further investigation.
“Investigation is on to collect more information about those involved,” said Mizanur Rahman Khan, also the law secretary.
The seven-member enquiry committee formed at the directives of the High Court to investigate the seven murders submitted its progress report on Tuesday while Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) presented their reports on Monday.
The reports are supposed to be placed before the High Court bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore on Wednesday.
A total of 335 people have so far made their deposition before the probe body, he said, adding that they have sought some information from several organisations, including Bangladesh Bank.
“The investigation will end after receiving all information,” he said, adding that they have sought another four weeks to complete the probe.
On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver, were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area of the city. Hours after their abduction, senior lawyer at district Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.
Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30. Besides, the following day, the body of Jahangir, car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the river.
Later, Shahidul Islam, Nazrul’s father-in-law that Rab officials killed Nazrul and others in exchange for Tk 6 crore from city councilor Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the murder case, and other accomplices.
The three former officials of Rab-11 in Narayanganj -Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Navy’s Lt Commander MM Rana – were forced to retirement for their alleged involvement in the incident.
They are now in jail.
On June 14, Paschimbanga police arrested Nur Hossain from an apartment in Kolkata as Narayanganj police earlier sought Interpol’s help to arrest Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the sensational killing.
