Minister Syed Mohsin Ali, who made headlines in the past for smoking in public and openly threatening journalists, has now been spotted dozing off during a programme in Dhaka.
The social welfare minister slept through a discussion on Monday organised by Bangabandhu Sainik League on the occasion of the Bangladesh’s founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s death anniversary.
The programme started just after 3:30pm at Dhanmondi’s Road No. 32.
Ali showed up at around 4:50pm and dozed off minutes after taking a seat.
Juba Mahila League’s General Secretary Apu Ukil, Sainik League’s President Bazlur Rahman and General Secretary Shah Akram delivered speeches after Ali reached the venue.
The minister woke up around half an hour later. He drank water and fell asleep again. He was seen taking a nap putting his right hand on his forehead.
At times, he was seen waking up startled during others’ speeches and then falling back to sleep.
The scene seemed too good to be ignored.
Journalists and party activists took out their cameras and mobile phones to take photos of the sleeping minister.
Ali’s personal assistant woke him up when his name was announced at around 6:20pm.
The minister went on delivering his speech.
Earlier, he had made headlines for smoking at a programme for children just a few days after taking oath.
He had then apologised for his act.
Recently, he threatened journalists at a programme in Sylhet.
The minister offered his apologies for that incident, too.
