Mayor-elect of Gazipur City Corporation MA Mannan and his contestant Ajmat Ullah Khan take sweets from each other’s hands at the latter’s residence on Monday.
Mayor-elect MA Mannan met his nearest rival in the July 6 Gazipur City Corporation elections Ajmat Ullah Khan at the latter’s residence on Monday.
Mannan went to Ajmat’s house at Tongi around 11:00am with sweets and flowers.
They exchanged pleasantries and pledged to work together for the development of the embryonic city.
Replying to the queries of journalists, Mannan ascribed several national issues to his victory in the election.
He mentioned Ajmat as his friend and vowed to work together accompanying with him.
Ajmat, who contested the city polls as the ruling Awami League backed candidate, told the journalists that whatever the reasons of his defeat he would assist Mannan for the development of the city.
Earlier on Sunday evening, Mannan visited the residence of Ajmat when he was not at home.
Mannan, who ran in the election as a main opposition BNP-backed candidate, beat Ajmat in the maiden Gazipur city polls by a margin of over 100,000 votes on Saturday.
