Man killed as flyover girder collapses in city

A man was killed and two others were injured when a concrete girder of a under construction flyover at the Dhaka’s Malibagh area collapsed on him early Monday.

One Shwapan, 40, was killed in the incident at rail gate area of Malibagh, said Bacchu Mia, a sub-inspector at Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp.

One of the labourers Liton said on-duty engineer Polash and a cement company driver Nurunnobi received injuries in the flyover girder collapse.

Fire-fighter Md Musa at Fire Service and Civil Defence’s Khilgaon station said several people were injured in the incident. Two units of the fire service are working at the spot.

Back in November, 2012, a total of 16 people were killed as concrete girders of a under construction Bahaddarhat flyover in Chittagong city collapsed on a number of people.
