Lucky travellers rejoice at Kamalapur

Many keep waiting for any day’s ticket

Hundreds of travellers were seen rejoicing on Friday at Kamalapur railway station after obtaining their much-expected tickets when some looked gloomy because they were not so lucky.
A few thousand of people were waiting at the central railway station in the capital for more than 24 hours to get their advance tickets.
Some of them who failed to get tickets on Friday were seen waiting in the queue for tickets to make their journeys on September 24.
The Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on September 25.
Today is the last day of Bangladesh Railway’s sales of advance tickets.
On Friday, Bangladesh Railway sold tickets for journeys commencing on September 23, just 2 days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
After bus operators started selling advance tickets on September 11, they found that most of the travellers were asking for tickets for September 23.
The Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation, a public service transport, has also been selling advance tickets from September 16. However, most of the tickets for September 23 had already been sold.
Thinking as their last resort, a good number of travellers started queuing at Kamalapur railway station since Thursday morning to obtain tickets for September 23.
But most of the tickets were gone by 1:00pm on Friday.
Saiful, who queued at the station since 8:00am on Thursday to buy a ticket for a Rajshahi-bound train on September 23, said his ‘bingo’ moment came at10:00am on Friday.
Like Saiful, Azim was also lucky. He got his ticket destined for Dewanganj after waiting more than 24 hours.
But, many were not as blessed as them.
Mobarak, who flocked to the station on Friday around 6:00am failed to get a ticket and kept waiting in the queue to get one for September 23 or even for the next day. He will go to Rajshahi.
The women folks suffered a lot as they had a lone counter designated for them.
During a visit to the station, this correspondent talked to railway ministry’s secretary Feroz Salauddin, who said many failed to buy advance tickets as demands for tickets were much higher than the number of tickets available.
He requested the home-goers to buy standing tickets.
