The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson, Khaleda Zia, on Wednesday warned that those RAB and police members who are involved in the incidents of enforced disappearance and secret killing will not be spared and brought to justice.
“The RAB members and policemen who have involvement in secret killings and making people disappeared will never be pardoned. They’ll face trial one day,” said the BNP chief while addressing an iftar mahfil at a city hotel.
Khaleda Zia hosted the iftar party for the family members of 38 people who have been victims of enforced disappearances or secret killings during the anti-government movement.
Now people hate Awami League, said Khaleda adding, “Everybody is eagerly waiting to see end of Awami League’s misrule.”
“Democracy will revive once again and when steps will be taken to trace the missing people and ensure the trial of those involved in making them disappeared and secret killings,” said Khaleda.
She said like the family members of the missing party leaders and activists, BNP also hopes to get them back one day.
Expressing her solidarity with the dejected family members of the victims of enforced disappearance, she said those party leaders who went missing used to consider her as their mother.
“I can realise the pain of losing children as you know I’ve also lost my child…if we can’t find them out (when BNP will return to power) we’ll at least hold the trial of those involved in making them disappeared to console their family members,” a weeping Khaleda told the near and dear ones of the victims.
Criticising the government for carrying out constant extrajudicial killings, she said it cannot be accepted that a person will be killed in crossfire without any trial.
“Awami League is a secret killer and repressor.”
Shamsuddin Ahmed, father of missing Airport Thana unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader Nizamuddin Munna, Hridy Hossain, minor daughter of Bangshal Thana unit missing JCD leader Pervez Hossain and Ahad, minor boy of 33-no ward missing JCD leader Chanchal, spoke at the programme.
Narrating their plight and pain for not having their near and dear ones traced even after long time of their missing, they urged the prime minister to take effective steps to get them back.
