After losing cabinet post and presidium membership of the party, the ruling Awami League has finally expelled Abdul Latif Siddique from the party for hurting religious sentiments of the Muslims.
The Awami League Central Working Committee in its meeting on Friday evening unanimously took the decision. The meeting was held at Prime Minister’s official residence Ganobhaban with Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, AL general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said the ALCWC after thoroughly examining Latif Siddique’s reply to the show-cause notice served upon him found his explanation not satisfactory.
Under the circumstances, Ashraf said, Latif has finally been removed from the primary membership of AL as per two sections of the party constitution.
Replying to a query, the AL general secretary said there is no scope for Latif for making an appeal seeking any review of this decision.
About the debate over Latif’s parliament membership, Ashraf said the party resolution would be sent to the Election Commission as it is the only authority to decide this issue. “Whatever the EC decides that will be the final.”
