Narsingdi Police took Jhumjhum Akter Jhuma, who came out runner up in a television talent hunt in 2008, to custody from Dhaka on Wednesday, 15 days after her alleged kidnap from Narsingdi.

The victim support center (VSC) of Tejgaon police handed her over to the Narsingdi police at the presence of her mother Jasmine Begum, Badrul Alam, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Narsingdi Sadar Police Station, told The Daily Star without stating any further details.

“The child artiste is being taken to Narsingdi from Dhaka in the afternoon,” the OC said.

Law enforcers would produce her before a court on Thursday, reported our correspondent in Narsingdi.

On August 4, Jhuma’s mother filed a case against Israfil, son of Delowar Hossain of Badail village in Ashulia, and Israfil’s driver Faisal with Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Narsingdi.

According to the case statement, on July 23, Israfil picked her up at his vehicle when she was returning to her home in Shibpur upazila saying that they would take her to a programme in Dhaka.

Failing to know about her whereabouts, Jhuma’s mother later filed the case with the tribunal.
