Khaleda to brief media Wednesday

BNP Chairperson and Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia will address a press conference at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday.

Syrul Kabir Khan, an official of Chairperson’s press wing, confirmed the press conference to the Dhaka Tribune.

He said the press conference will be held at Westin Hotel around 4pm.

Khaleda Zia attended a meeting with the 18-party alliance leaders at her Gulshan residence on Monday night.

At the meeting, the alliance leaders discussed the programmes the alliance had enforced to thwart the election. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s conditional call for dialogue – breaking up ties with Jamaat-e-Islami and the role of foreign diplomats stationed in Dhaka –  also came up for discussion.

After the meeting, several leaders of the alliance mentioned the BNP chairperson’s possibility to hold a press conference on Wednesday.

According to the leaders, the BNP chief is likely to inform the people about the alliance’s current stance. This would be Khaleda’s first press meeting after the January 5 polls.

Talking to some of the alliance leaders, it was also learnt that the three-time former premier may also call the government to initiate dialogue to resolve the prevailing political stalemate.
