The Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, on Saturday (August 15) celebrated her 70th birthday and sought blessings from people.
Flanked by leaders of BNP and its front and associate organisations, Khaleda Zia clad in orange coloured saree, cut her birthday cakes at her Gulshan office at 9:00 pm to formally celebrate her birthday. The party leaders sang in unison ‘happy birth day to you.’
Khaleda simultaneously cut five birthday cakes weighing 70 pound each presented by leaders and activists of BNP, Dhaka city BNP, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jatiyatabadi Jubadal and Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebok Dal amid clapping.
A munajat was offered before the cake-cutting event, praying for her good health and longevity.
A song composed by JASAS on the occasion of her birthday was played during cutting of the cakes.
When asked by a reporter about her London medical trip, she said the date was not set yet.
The party leaders presented Khaleda bouquets of flowers.
Her Gulshan office was decorated with colourful festoons, lighting and flowers on this occasion.
In the past, she used to celebrate her birthday by formally cutting cakes at the beginning of the day (August 15) at 12:01am but this time she did it nearly at the end of August 15, at 9:00 pm.
A good number of leaders and activists of BNP, Chhatra Dal, Jubadal and other front bodies thronged in front of her Gulshan office and chanted slogans, wishing her birthday, as she stood at the entrance on the ground floor of her office.
They revelers also shouted anti-government slogans.

Earlier, Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal also celebrated the chairperson’s birthday by cutting a cake at the residence of BNP vice-chairman Selima Rahman on Saturday afternoon.
