It’s now govt blockade all over: BNP

Opposition BNP on Saturday alleged that the government itself has created a non-stop blockade against people with the help of the administration in a bid to foil the 18-party’s march for democracy programme.

In a statement, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “It seems that the country is under the grip of undeclared hartal or section 144 of the government.”

He alleged that the government has stopped the movement of all types of public transport, including bus, train and launch, to resist the wave of lakhs of Dhaka-bound people from across the country to join Sunday’s March for Democracy programme scheduled to be held at Nayapaltan in the city.

The BNP spokesman said capital Dhaka has been cut off from all other parts of the country due to the government move. Even other cities and districts have been isolated from upazilas and thanas by imposing a ban on plying vehicles.

Besides, he alleged, the law enforcers in the name of raid on residential hotels and restaurants in Dhaka are intimidating their managements while the joint forces are raiding the houses of opposition men across the country and harassing them and damaging their houses and valuables.

Fakhrul, however, called upon the opposition leaders and activists to converge on in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Sunday defying all obstacles and hurdles.

“People are the sources of all powers and their victory is imminent,” he added.
