ICT investigation agency submits 844-page report on 3 war crimes suspects

 The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunals (ICTs) on Monday submitted a 844-page report to the prosecution on the war crimes charges against three detained war crimes suspects — Siraj Master, Khan Akram Hossain and Abdul Latif Talukder of Bagerhat district.

Briefing reporters at its Dhanmondi office in the city, coordinator of the investigation agency Abdul Hannan Khan said the agency has completed the inquiry against the trio in 15 months.

Another co-coordinator, M Sanaul Haque, said the probe team investigated the allegations, including abduction, torture, loot, arson, murder and mass killing against Sheikh Sirajul Haque alias Siraj Mastar, Khan Akram Hossain, and Abdul Latif Talukder in Bagerhat during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.

Investigation officer of the case ASP M Helel Uddin said he began the investigation on May 21 last year and completed the task after over one year and three months. After scrutiny, a total of 64 prosecution witnesses have been kept standby for recording their evidence before the tribunal against the three war crimes accused.

Replying to a question, the IO said that the three war crimes accused were originally associated with then Muslim League. After the independence, Siraj Master was associated with BNP, Latif Talukder with Awami League, and Khan Akram had joined government service.

Earlier, police arrested all the three war crimes accused who were on the run, on different dates from different places after the International Crimes Tribunal-1 issued warrants for their arrest on June 10 upon a prosecution plea.
