Announces 20pc dearness allowance for govt employees

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday urged professionals to take initiative to make people aware of the development the country has achieved during the present tenure of her government as well as the necessity of its continuation.
“I hope that the professionals, who have representation at all levels of the society, would take initiative to focus on successes that we have achieved over the years at the national and international levels,” she said.
She said this while addressing the grand national rally of Peshajibi Samonnoy Parishad (professionals coordination council) at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital.
The professionals applauded the premier as she announced giving 20 percent dearness allowance for the government employees which will be maximum Tk 6,000 and minimum Tk 1,500. The process of constituting a permanent pay commission for civil servants is also going on, she said.
Hasina said her government fully believes that people are the owner of votes and the country’s development is possible under a continuous democratic process.
“To uphold the democratic process, the next election will be held under the present constitutional framework, and the party enjoying people’s mandate will come to power,” she said.
Over the last four years and eight months, her government has done every thing required for a sustainable democracy giving people guarantee of their franchise, she said.
Hasina said, “I have full confidence in people. If they want constant development and benefit, rid the country off poverty, persisting social peace, keep the nation free from terrorism and above all keep up the spirit of the war of liberation, they must give us vote. If they think otherwise, I have nothing to say.”
“BNP has taken vote misguiding people through an orchestrated propaganda in five city corporations, she said, adding, people of those cities have already started experiencing its backlash as their workers have begun their race to gobble up everything including footpaths,” the prime minister said.
With president of the Samonnoy Parishad Justice AFM Mejbahuddin Ahmed in the chair, the rally was addressed, among others, by Parishad leaders, PM’s media advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, vice chancellor of BUET Prof. SM Nazrul Islam, secretary general Dr Quamrul Hasan Khan and divisional leaders of the Parishad. Vice chancellor of Dhaka University AAMS Arefin Siddiqui gave welcome address.
