Hefajat demands judicial probe into ‘May 5 killings’

Hefajat-e-Islam Dhaka City unit convener and Nayeb-e-ameer Moulana Nur Hossain Kashemi on Monday demanded formation of  a judicial committee to investigate “killing of Hefajat men” at its Shapla Chattar rally on May 5 last year.

He also demanded the withdrawal of false cases filed against the Hefajat men and compensation for the family members of each of the deceased.

The Hefajat leader came up with his demands while addressing a discussion  and doa mahfil at Jamia Madania Baridhara Madrasa premises in city’s Baridhara area, seeking salvation of the departed souls of those killed during the Hefajat May 5 rally.

“We have been preparing a list of those killed and injured in May 5 incident. The list will be published soon”, he said.

After the incident, Kashemi said, Hefajat placed their 13-point demand to the government. “Those were not demands of a, individual or a single group. Those were the demands of all the people of the country.”

He went on saying, “Now there is no security in the country…killings, abductions are on the rise. This situation has been created for not complying with Hefajat’s demands.”

Kashemi also said a vested quarter is involved in a bad campaign against their leader Allama Shafi.
