BNP leader Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Wednesday was granted conditional bail by the High Court (HC) in a money laundering case.
An HC bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty issued the order in a hearing on a bail petition filed by Khandaker Mosharraf.
Following the hearing, the BNP leader’s lawyer Nitai Chowdhury told reporters that HC has granted him bail on the conditions that the Mosharraf Hossain will have to submit his passport to the court and also take permission for travelling abroad. Also, the money in the United Kingdom based account cannot be transferred.
The case was filed on February 6 by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) director Nasim Anwar with Ramna Police Station in the capital.
According to the first information report (FIR), Dr Mosharraf laundered nearly 8.04 lakh British pounds (equivalent to Tk 9.54 crore) to the United Kingdom when he was the Health and Family Welfare Minister during 2001-2006.
After examining the evidence and other documents, the ACC found a fixed term deposit of about 8.04 lakh British pound in a joint account (AC 108492) of Dr Khandaker Mosharraf and his wife, Bilkis Akter Hossain, at Lloyds TSB Offshore Private Banking, Guernsey.
