BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday night categorically said the opposition will not accept any election without restoration of the non-party caretaker government.

“We won’t accept any election without reinstatement of the non-party caretaker government. People also won’t accept any election under a party-government,” he said.

The BNP spokesman also warned that the government will have to face dire consequences if it unilaterally tries to hold the next polls under its own arrangement ignoring people’s demand and sentiment.

Fakhrul came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after his return from Australia at 11pm.

The demand for restoration of the caretaker government has turned into a mass demand, the BNP leader said adding that there is no alternative to reinstating the caretaker government system to hold the next election in a credible manner.

He hoped that good senses will prevail upon the government to resolve the ongoing political crisis through accepting people’s demand for arranging the next election under a non-party administration.

On July 21, Fakhrul went to Australia to see the newborn baby girl of his daughter.

Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson and opposition leader Khaleda Zia on Saturday left here for Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah in Makkah at the invitation of the Saudi government.

A regular flight of Emirates Airlines carrying Khaleda, also former prime minister, and her entourage took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 7:20pm.
