Hasina’s democracy matches Mujib’s: Fakhrul

Fakhrul

Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said premier Sheikh Hasina’s democracy has no differrence with that of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“We have seen the democracy of Sheikh Mujib and seen the democracy of Sheikh Hasina as well. There is no difference between the two. Whoever are raising voice against them are being destroyed,” said Mirza Fakhrul.

The BNP leader made the remarks while addressing the triennial council session of Kishoreganj district unit of the BNP at Gaital Atithi Community Centre in the town.

Mirza Fakhrul alleged that the opposition people had faced inhumans tortures and repressession in the years between 1972 and 1974.

“The people of the country had suffered unbearable pains at that time. Their misrule led to the 1974 famine. Lakhs of people starved to death. The same things that happened during the regime of Sheikh Mujib are happening now,” said the BNP leader.

In an oblique reference to the killing of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal activists shortly after independence, Fakhrul said some 20,000 youths were killed in those days and youths are being killed today in the same fashion.

He alleged that the Awami League government does not believe in democracy and it has held voter-less election in 2014 deceiving the people of the country.

“Even five per cent did not turn up at the polling station in that election in which as much as 154 MPs were elected uncontested,” he added.

  1. This is what we need to hear more. AL does not like democracy. They like the system that is prevalent in China and Russia or Uzbekistan. Opposition leaders should come out and dare to speak the truth. Sheikh Mujib was not a democrat. He was a dictator.
