Govt out with opposition annihilation agenda: Fakhrul

Fakhrul

Criticising the government for not releasing his party colleague Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain despite a High Court bail, BNP spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said making the country ‘opposition less’ is the current regime’s only agenda.

In a statement, he also said the government alongside its repressive acts, abduction, enforced disappearances and dangerous secret killings, has continued arresting and harassing national leaders implicating them in ‘false’ cases to make the opposition leader less.

Fakhrul, the BNP acting secretary general, said, “The government has put BNP standing committee member, former ministers and noted educationist Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain in jail resorting to various ploys though he was granted bail from the High Court.”

He strongly protested and condemned the government’s ‘politically motivated heinous move’.

“Mosharraf has been held in jail as part of the government’ advance step to suppress the upcoming movement,” the BNP leader added.

Describing the current government as ‘democracy annihilator’, the BNP leader said the Awami League regime has destroyed all the basic elements and principles of democracy, including the democratic institutions, the rule of law, opposition parties and freedom of expression.

Fakhrul also alleged that the ‘power-greedy’ government does not bother even to sacrifice the country’s independence and sovereignty in its own interest.

He warned the government that it will neither be able to destroy BNP nor stay in office illegally.

“All the cats of this illegitimate regime are illegal. It won’t be possible to enchain people by resorting to illegal means. People will put up a strong resistance against the illegal government,” the BNP spokesman said.

He demanded the government immediately release Mosharraf after withdrawing all the ‘false’ cases filed against him. Or else, he asked the government to get ready for facing any unexpected situation.
