BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said the responsibility of any possible trouble during Hefajat-e Islam’s long march towards Dhaka must go to the government.
Addressing a press conference after a party meeting at its Nayapaltan central office, the BNP spokesman also said, “The government must be held responsible for any difficulty during the long march.”
He also accused the ruling Awami League of hatching a plot to halt the long march and said, “The worst thing is that Awami League is saying they’ll be there in the field. It indicates they’re trying to obstruct it.”
Besides, Fakhrul alleged that the government has already made grounds to create troubles during the programme. “They (govt) have planned how to create troubles and shift the blame onto the opposition.”
Replying to a query, he said, “Some government-backed bodies have called for hartal (countering the long march), while some transport owners’ associations refuse to rent out vehicles.”
BNP’s Dhaka city unit convener Sadeque Hossain Khoka and its vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman were, among others, present.
