He returns home from Singapore after treatment
“The government is buying time talking about dialogue…I think the current regime has to take initiatives to resolve the political crisis as it’s responsible for the deadlock,” he said.
Fakhrul was talking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on his return from Singapore after receiving medical treatment.
The BNP leader arrived at the airport around 5pm, 15 days after his treatment at Singapore National University Hospital.
He accused the government of pushing country’s democracy backward by its aggressive attitude, and urged it to take steps to overcome it.
Fakhrul alleged that the government is running the country following the one-party Baksal notion.
Asked when he will be active again in politics, Fakhrul said he will start political activities following the advice from physicians.
The BNP acting secretary general along with his wife, Rahat Ara Begum, left Dhaka for Singapore on May 14.
Before living for Singapore, Fakhrul at the airport had hoped that the nation will be able to overcome the present political crisis through talks. “The people of the country believe the ongoing political impasse will be resolved through a meaningful dialogue. We also want peace and democracy to be restored, and democracy to get an institutional shape… all problems to be resolved.”
On May 6, Fakhrul was released from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) prison cell on bail, nearly one month after his arrest.
Later, he was admitted to United Hospital in the city where doctors advised to go abroad for better treatment.
