The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) of the Bangladesh Water Development Board has forecast that the low-lying areas of the Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat and Rangpur districts in the northern part of the country may be temporarily flooded by the Teesta River overflowing its banks.
The centre’s regular bulletin on Friday said that, among the monitored stations, only the Kushiyara River was flowing above the danger level at the Fenchuganj station in Sylhet.
Quoting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the FFWC said that the land depression located over the coast of West Bengal and adjacent areas of India has moved west-northwest and is currently located in Jharkhand and the adjacent Gangetic West Bengal. It may move further west-northwest as it continues to weaken.
The water level of these rivers may increase again in the next three days. Therefore, over the next 72 hours, the Teesta River may flow above the danger level in some places in the Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat and Rangpur districts.
The low-lying areas adjacent to the river may be temporarily flooded in some places.
However, the water levels of these rivers may increase in the next three days.
Meanwhile, the water levels of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna rivers have decreased in the past 24 hours, which may continue for the next three days and may remain stable for the following two days.
The water levels of the Ganga-Padma rivers are stable, which may continue for the next two days and may increase over the following three days. It is likely to continue flowing below the danger level.
In addition, the water levels of the Surma-Kushiyara rivers in the northeastern region have decreased in the last 24 hours, which is likely to continue for the next three days.
