Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad on Tuesday relieved the party secretary general Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu and appointed Ruhul Amin Howledar as new secretary general.
He said none but the party chairman can convene presidium meeting and Monday’s meeting had no authority to take any decision.
He made the announcement at a news conference at the party’s central office at Banani in Dhaka in the afternoon.
Ershad said there was no chance to split the party with relieving Bablu from duty. ‘I challenge, he will not be able to mobilise even ten people,’ he said.
Earlier on Monday, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu said, ‘at a meeting of the party attended by some party presidium members, made Raushan Ershad chairperson.’ The announcement of split came a day after Ershad made his younger brother GM Quader co-chairman of the party.
Ershad at the news conference said Bablu had no right to announce Raushan Ershad as acting party chairman.
